Drunk and abusive man to make charity payment

A Knockmore man may avoid a conviction for his drunken behaviour if he makes a €200 payment to the local hospice by February 10.

Kevin Bourke, Ballymacredmond, Knockmore, came before Ballina District Court on Tuesday, and pleaded guilty to one public order charge of intoxication.

He was arrested on November 10 last at Lower Main Street, Foxford.

Gardaí were conducting enquiries in the area on the night in relation to a separate incident. Garda Paul Harte spoke to Mr Bourke.

Bourke was abusive, he was intoxicated and deemed to be a danger to himself. He was arrested and taken to Ballina Garda Station.

Solicitor for Bourke, John Gordon, said his client was sorry for his behaviour on the night.

The judge adjourned the case for one month to allow Mr Bourke to make the payment to the local hospice.
