Festive competitions wrap up club action for the year

Balla

Breege Jennings was the winner of the last ladies’ stableford competition before Christmas with a score of 34pts last weekend. She finished in front of Pauline O’Connor who finished in second spot, and Carmel Henry came home in third spot. The men’s competition was won by John Tuohy, with Don Dillon finishing in second place after both men finished on 38pts, with Tuohy winning thanks to his back nine scoring and Michael Neary finished in third place.

The club is selling green fee vouchers which are four for the price of two at the moment, for more information contact Patricia on 087 9906391. On St Stephen’s Day, the right handers will play the left handers for the

27 to Sunday January 4 there will be an open three ball scramble. So if you have family or friends home for Christmas who enjoy a game of golf, take them along to Balla Golf Club and enter in the scramble fun! Entry fee is €5 per person, with the re-entry fee of €3 for the same team.

Castlebar

The foursome of Pauline O’Donoghue, Merlin Clarke, Ilish McGing, and Marian Martin were the winners of the ladies’ bottle day competition with a score of 68. They nosed home just in front of the team of Una Lydon, Breta Fitzmaurice, Beverly Flynn, and Anne O’Sullivan, with the collective of Carmel Naughton, Teresa Mannion, Margaret Naughton, and Anne O’Sullivan coming home

weekend’s Don Dillon Wooden Bowl. From Saturday December in third spot. Lady captain Pauline O’Donoghue and her playing partner Michael Kilcourse clinched the club mixed foursomes title after they saw off Joey McDonnell and Patricia Walsh in the final.

Claremorris

Kieran Canavan was the winner of the Christmas Hamper Competition with Gerry Kilkenny finishing just behind him in second place, and Tom Burke coming home in third spot. The ladies’ competition was won by Riana Kean.

Mulranny

In last competition Paul Gavin was the winner with a score of 37pts, with Pat Mulchrone coming home four points behind him in second place. Michael Joyce was the third placed finisher on a score of 31pts while Seamus Hyland completed the top four also on 31pts. The club open weekend competition will resume this coming weekend and you can play any day from Friday to Sunday. The captains, Rod and Saskia extend seasonal greetings to all their members and their families and hope that 2015 will be a good year for you and that you continue to enjoy your golf at Mulranny.

Westport

Last weekend saw a 15 hole Christmas voucher competition take place in the club and it was a tight battle for first place, with Teddy Walsh and Tommy Reilly both finishing up on 31pts. Walsh was the man who took the win thanks to his back nine play and round off the pre Christmas action.
