Mayo teams drop points in top division

The second round of games in the Connacht Rugby Junior A League last weekend saw both of the Mayo teams in the top division go down to defeats. After grabbing a late win in round one the previous week against Ballinasloe, Ballina went down 33-17 away to Monivea last Sunday afternoon. The north Mayo men were trailing by 11 at the break and did manage to haul themselves to within a converted try at one stage in the second half, but they were not able to pull themselves back on terms.

Westport went down to their second defeat of the season when they lost by just two points away to Ballinasloe. The Galway men ran out 11-9 winners, with Seán Tobin kicking the scores for Westport. This weekend Westport will host Monivea at 1.30pm on Sunday, with Ballina on the road in Galway where they will face OLBC at 2.30pm.

In the Junior B League Ballyhaunis are the team out in front after two rounds with two wins from two and a bonus point in the bank. Last weekend they ran in 48 points against Tuam in a 48-7 demolishing of the north Galway side. So far this year Ballyhaunis have touched down for nine tries in two games and only letting their opponents cross their whitewash once. Castlebar, who themselves had a big win over Tuam the previous weekend, coughed up a vital win last Saturday night when they were beaten 27-23 by Corrib at home. This weekend Castlebar will be on the road to Galway where they will take on Loughrea, while Ballyhaunis will take on a confident Ballinrobe team that are coming off the back of a 19-13 win over Creggs at home last Sunday.
