Finding a home

The issue of a permanent home for the new Castlebar Municipal District was raised again at the July meeting of the municipal district. Independent councillor Michael Kilcoyne said he felt the municipal district should have a proper chamber to hold its meetings in and receive people in, and that the current meeting venue in the Áras was not suitable especially if members of the public wanted to attend.

Director of services Paddy Mahon said the council was looking into it, as part of the plans for the old Imperial Hotel on the Mall which the council had bought as part of the design process for the construction of a meeting chamber was being pursued. Cllr Kilcoyne and the other councillors agreed it would be a good location.
