SuperValu sells more Bord Bia approved meat than any other retailer

SuperValu, the leading Irish grocery retailer, sells more Bord Bia approved meat than any other retailer, according to the latest Kantar Market Data. The figures show that SuperValu outperformed all competitors, selling over 41,000 tonnes of Irish sourced Bord Bia approved fresh meat in the 52 weeks to June 22.

In addition a recent Red C poll showed that SuperValu meat quality consistently scores significantly higher than all competitors among Irish shoppers.

SuperValu stocks 100 per cent fresh Irish meat – beef, pork, chicken and lamb – and last year the retailer became the first in Ireland to adopt the DNA Traceback Programme for Pigmeat products.

Martin Kelleher, managing director SuperValu, said: “As part of our commitment to Irish suppliers, we source local wherever possible. Shoppers want quality food that they can really trust and that’s why they choose Irish meat as it is quality that cannot be beaten. The latest research from Kantar highlights that SuperValu is the number one supporter of the Irish meat industry and is a key factor in why we have recently been recognised as Ireland’s most reputable brand.

“The approach SuperValu takes in terms of traceability really differentiates us from our competitors and our policy of exclusively sourcing quality assured meat products, while supporting Irish farmers, means our customers can be confident they are buying meat products of the best quality, while supporting local farmers. With these latest figures from Kantar, we continue to set the benchmark for others to follow in the Irish grocery market,” added Kelleher.
