Claremorris weight loss course to boost heart health

The long list of health problems associated with being overweight has been well-chronicled in recent years in the same way the many benefits of healthy weight loss have been highlighted.

However, slimming the waistline and shedding the pounds can be very challenging.

To that end, local heart and stroke prevention charity Croí has launched a series of six-week weight loss courses, and the next one begins tomorrow (Saturday ) in Claremorris.

The course is a dietitian-led programme and participants shed, on average, nine pounds over the six weeks.

The course addresses the many complex issues around gaining and shedding weight such as the quality and quantity of sleep, proper hydration, physical activity, lifestyle, relationship with food, shopping for better health, understanding food labels and controlling portion sizes.

The course has been developed by the award-winning health team based at the Croí Heart and Stroke Centre, Galway.
