Claremorris to become Ireland’s first fibre town

On Monday, Claremorris will announce its step into the future when it sets out its plans to become Ireland’s first fibre town. The project will be launched by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny in the McWilliam Park Hotel in the town.

The event will see details of a major investment by Enet, the open access network operator, that will create Ireland’s first 250Mbs fibre town for business in Claremorris. Enet currently operates and manages the State's fibreoptic infrastructure, known as the Metropolitan Area Network or MANs. The company is the only carrier-neutral, wholesale, telecoms provider in Ireland. An Taoiseach Enda Kenny will be joined by Minister for Communications, Energy, and Natural Resources, Pat Rabbitte at the launch along with Conal Henery, CEO of Enet, and Jimmy Flynn, president of Claremorris Chamber of Commerce.

Earlier this year Enet gave a presentation to well over 100 local businesses in the McWilliam Park Hotel on the plans for the project that required almost 50 per cent of the businesses in the town to sign up for service for it to be built.
