Dancing at The Crossroads — again

The organisers of Dancing At The Crossroads in Castlebar are delighted to announce this year’s event will go ahead on Sunday June 1, the Sunday of the June Bank Holiday weekend. After the success of the last two years, such was demand that it was decided to extend the dancing this year and invite more performers and dancers to join in the fun. The music this year will start at 5pm, and kicking off the evening will be local traditional group Rolling Waves under the musical directorship of fiddler John Kilkenny. They will be joined on a specially constructed dance platform by students from the world famous Cresham School of Irish Dancing.

Others on the line up are John Kilkenny and Tom O’Toole, The 4 & 9s, Chris & Dave, Dessie O’Halloran, The All Star Ceili Band featuring Leo Moran, Anto Thistlewaite (formerly of The Saw Doctors ), and Stephen Doherty. This is a very exciting line up of musicians and they will be joined on the platform by world champion sean nos dancer Liam Scanlon along with his colleagues, Cathy Scanlon, Laura Ganley, Charlene Morrison, Sandra Ganley, and many others.

A dance floor will be constructed on the ground so the spectators can join the dancers and there will be many ceili dances, set dances, waltzes, jives, etc.

For those who are unsure about their Irish steps or want to brush up on the steps they learned years ago, Liam Scanlon will be hosting a workshop in the Linenhall at 2pm that afternoon.

The night promises to be a fun family night with plenty of fun for the children. There will be bouncy castles, face-painting, rodeo bull, and other children’s attractions. The restaurants and bars will be open all day so food and hospitality will be on the doorstep. Spread the word and for updates check the Facebook page www.facebook.com/DancingAtTheCrossroads
