Wide range of expert services at Ballinrobe Physiotherapy Clinic

Paula O’Neill, who opened Ballinrobe Physiotherapy Clinic, in February 2012, offers a variety of treatments for injuries and illnesses ranging from musculoskeletal, respiratory, neurological, and sports rehabilitation, amputee, women’s health, stroke rehabilitation, paediatrics, and orthopaedics. 

Paula completed an MSc in physiotherapy at the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland. 

She gained experience in Wollongong Hospital, New South Wales, Australia, in intensive care. She has also worked in the Galway Clinic in respiratory, musculoskeletal orthopaedics, post surgery rehabilitation, oncology, and intensive care.

Complex needs

She has worked with the female under 16s and 18s Irish basketball teams.

Following her time in the Galway Clinic, Ms O’Neill worked with Enable Ireland, in paediatrics with physical disabilities and a range of complex needs.

The Ballinrobe Physiotherapy Clinic has now extended its services to include Pilates, yogalates and exercise classes, which include kettlebells and pregnancy yoga. 

In 2012, Ms O’Neill also launched a sister clinic in Ballindine - above Health West Community Pharmacy.

There is now a team of experts at the clinic. David Whelan, Emmett Hartigan, Kelly Lee and Katherine O Loughlin work with Ms O’Neill to provide the wide range of services available.

David Whelan

David Whelan is a powerhouse Pilates and yoga teacher. 

He runs a beginners to improvers level yoga-Pilates fusion course, which is ideal for rehabilitation, prehabilitation, injury prevention, improved flexibility, and as a valuable addition to existing exercise routines. 

Emmett Hartigan

Emmett Hartigan qualified as a physiotherapist at the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland, after completing an honours degree in anatomy in NUI Galway in 2005.

He has experience working as a physiotherapist in areas including muskuloskeletal, respiratory, post surgical rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, amputee rehabilitation, and cystic fibrosis. 

Emmet has travelled and worked internationally with the Irish National Life Save Surf National Team. 

Kelly Lee

Kelly Lee is a chartered physiotherapist, medical acupuncturist, and kinesiologist. She has more than 10 years’ experience as a physiotherapist and kinesiologist within private practice in Canada. She holds a prestigious qualification from McMaster University, Canada, in medical acupuncture.

She has been involved in Gaelic football in Mayo and Galway.

She specializes in back injuries.

Katherine O Loughlin

Katherine O Loughlin achieved her Bachelor of Science in mathematic science and computing from University College Galway (now NUI Galway ) in 1996.

She received her licentiate in acupuncture with distinction in 2009.

She went on to postgraduate studies in clinical practice in Nanjing, China, and has worked under the guidance of expert Chinese doctors. She is a member of the Acupuncture Foundation Professional Association (AFPA ), the longest established and largest regulatory body for the practice of acupuncture and Chinese medicine in Ireland.
