Mayo based MEP shortlisted for Brussels award

Jim Higgins MEP has been shortlisted for the MEP of the Year Transport award 2014. Organised by the Brussels-based Parliament Magazine, winners are chosen exclusively by fellow MEPs who vote on a shortlist of nominees.

The Fine Gael MEP has been shortlisted, "in particular, for his report on ‘a strategy for an electronic toll service in Europe’, which was adopted by the European Parliament in June 2013".

MEP Higgins is "commended for working continuously to improve Europe’s transport sector as a whole, while being described as having an “EU-wide outlook”, combined with “pragmatism” and an “in-depth understanding of the economic realities” faced by the transport sector. Award winners will be selected by their MEP peers at an awards ceremony in Brussels on March 18.
