Claremorris road markings to be revisited

The recent implementation of new road markings at the junction of the Kilcolman road and Knock road, in Claremorris town, will be looked at again by the council.

Fine Gael councillor Tom Connolly raised the issue at the November meeting of the Claremorris Electoral Area under a notice of motion. Cllr Connolly said he had been inundated with concerns from motorists due to the new layout, where the left hand lane is for motorists going left and straight ahead, rather than just for motorists turning left with, and those going straight ahead having to wait until the traffic turning left had passed, when the majority of the traffic was going either left of straight on at the junction. The new layout sees those wanting to turn right have a lane to themselves which is not as frequently used as the other traffic. Previously those wanting to go straight ahead could also use the right hand lane.

Cllr Connolly called for the new layout to be looked at, senior engineer for Mayo County Council Patsy Bourke said that he would take a look at it again.
