Mayo athletes off to masters international cross country championships

Athletics

Three of Mayo AC’s top masters athletes compete on the Irish team in the 26th Annual British and Irish Masters International Cross Country at Bute Park, Cardiff, next Saturday November 16. They qualified through the masters trial races at the Gerry Farnan Cross Country in the Phoenix Park last month. Pauline Moran, Colette Tuohy, and Angela O'Connor all made a successful medal winning debut last year in Belfast. However, O'Connor who also made the team this year is unable to travel to Cardiff. Moran and Tuohy will be joined this year by Mayo AC's Dublin based Jim Gaughan. The Geesala native will compete in the M60 team and will be hoping to add to the medals he won at the World Police and Firefighters Games in Belfast in the summer. Tuohy is in the W40 team, while Moran runs W55. Together with Gaughan they have won 15 national medals out of the club's 48 medal total for 2013. Three members in Irish vests is a great achievement and it continues Mayo AC's proud tradition of participation in this competition over the past 10 years.
