Machinery driver convicted of drink driving

A 25-year-old Claremorris man who pleaded guilty to drink driving was given a three year ban from driving in Castlebar District Court this week. Patrick Moran, Brize, Claremorris was stopped at on December 27 2011 after been seen driving at speed on Convent Road, Claremorris by gardai. He was observed breaking both the median line and hard shoulder by gardai before they pulled him over. When arrested he was brought to Claremorris Garda Station where he gave a blood sample, which returned a reading of 191mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.

The court was told that Moran is a 25 year old, machinery driver and this conviction would have serious effect on his employment. Solicitor for Moran, Mr John Geary asked for any ban to not come into effect until September so his client could get things organised. Judge Devins convicted and fined Moran €500 and disqualified him from driving for three years not to come into effect until August 12, 2013.
