The Emigrants’ Farewell is set to wow visitors to Mayo

A show which enthralled audiences on both sides of the Atlantic last year, has been confirmed to play the Royal Theatre, Castlebar on Friday April 19, as part of the build up to the summer shows.

A born and bred Mayo show, The Emigrants’ Farewell features the best of Irish music, song, dance and culture, and has received rave reviews following performances in Mayo, Manchester, Pittsfield, Berkshire County, and Boston.

“We are very happy to be putting The Emigrants’ Farewell on in Mayo’s county town particularly given the emphasis this year on people visiting the county for The Gathering,” said Sheila Moffatt of Atlantic Rhythm Productions, who have produced and staged the show. She added, “The show will feature a cast of over 30 performers.” Ms Moffatt created the show last year to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. It is set in the fictional home of Mick and Madge Canavan on the eve of the departure of their four young children for the USA, on board the SMS Titanic. It is a genuine ‘American wake’ with music, song, dance and a cúpla focail. A ‘twist in the tale’ lends a real air of drama to the proceedings.

Tickets cost €20 per person and €16 for groups of ten or more and €12 for under 12s. Family tickets for €50 are also available. Doors will open at 7pm and the show is at 8pm, for more information contact the Royal Theatre box office on 094 9023111 or log on to www.royal.ie or www.ticketmaster.ie
