Unprecedented demand from companies wishing to recruit at GMIT tourism fair

For the first time ever, Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT ) has to operate a waiting list for companies wishing to recruit students for jobs and work placements at GMIT’s annual Tourism and Hospitality Careers Fair, taking place on Wednesday, March 13 from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.

There has been a tremendous response from hotels, restaurants and tourism companies wishing to attend, resulting in the organisers having to reluctantly introduce a waiting list.

The list of companies attending includes international hotel groups such as Jurys Inns and Hilton Hotel, and five star properties such as the Four Seasons and The Merrion Hotel. Companies are travelling from all over Ireland, and from as far afield as the US and UK.

Cáit Noone, head of the College of Tourism and Arts, GMIT, commented: “We host this annual event to assist our graduating students with career options, and to provide opportunities for industry colleagues to meet with potential work placement students. The strong response to this year’s event demonstrates the strength of the tourism and hospitality industry in Ireland, and shows that GMIT students and graduates continue to be in great demand.”

The event is also open to the public, those interested in networking, furthering their career, or opening a door to a new career in an exciting and dynamic industry. Anyone wishing to attend is advised to come prepared and bring current copies of their CV.
