Welfare fraudster given community service

A Ballyhaunis man who had pleaded guilty to social welfare deception on three occasions in 2011 at Ballyhaunis District Court in May this year was sentenced this week in the same court.

Barry McCrudden, 29 Esker Pines, Ballyhaunis, had his case adjourned for sentencing to September and then again to this week for a community service assessment. The assessment found him suitable for community service and Judge Mary Devins convicted and sentenced him to 100 hours community service in lieu of three months in prison for one count of the deception, fined him €200 for another, and took the third count into consideration.
