Autumn season tees off around the county

Balla

Last weekend’s competition sponsored by Nevada Bobs, Castlebar, was won by Brian Fallon with a score of 39pts. John O’Connor finished second with John Walsh coming third. The ladies’ competition was won by Breege Walsh on 36pts, with Carmel Costello finishing in second place and Geraldine O’Malley finished in third place. Mary Conlon won the junior scratch cup with Enda Holian finishing in second place. The captain’s away day takes place at Ballinrobe Golf Course on Saturday October 6 commencing at 12.30pm. A sign up sheet is on the noticeboard.

Ballina

Last Sunday’s ladies’ competition sponsored by Dillon McCarron Accountants was won by Marie Forde with a score of 38pts, Pauline Gilger came home in second place two points behind, with Mary Rafter finishing in third place. The gents’ competition was won by David Finnerty on 42pts, Keith Cronin came home in second place with Ryan Moran finishing third.

This Sunday’s competition will be a singles event sponsored by Tuffy’s Gala.

Ballinrobe

Eileen Byrne with a score 76 nett was the winner of the ladies’ members’ prize last Sunday. Bernie Lee finished in second place with Louise Cribben in third spot. In the monthly medal competition John Hudson with 72 nett was the gold medal winner, with Michael C Burke the silver medal winner and and bronze going to Hugh Morris.

Ballyhaunis

Last weekend’s competition was sponsored by Red Square, Ballyhaunis, and Anne Freeley took home the ladies’ prize with a score of 36pts. The gents’ competition was won by Stehen Ryall on 40pts with Tom Meehan finishing in second place on 39pts.

Castlebar

The Cosgrove and Partners accountants, Castlebar sponsored competition last weekend was won by Carmel Connaughton. She continued her good form this season with a great score of 37 points to win from Evelyn Duggan who was second with 36 points. Laurena Murphy was third with 33 points.

Claremorris

In the gents’ competition last weekend, Pat Burke was the winner on 41pts, with Noel Crean in second place on 38pts. The category prize winner was taken by Brian McGuinness on 38pts. The ladies’ comeptition was claimed by Yvonne Oldham on 41pts, with Marie Healy in second place on 40pts.

Westport

In last weekend’s competition, John Kearns was the winner of the gents’ event with a score of 39pts. He finished two points in front of second placed Kieran McGloin.

The current leaderboard of the Westport Gents Golfer of the year has Michael Kearns leading the gents’ section, with Liam Halpin in second place and Tommie J Reily back in third place. The ladies’ competition has Maeve O’Farrell out in front with Nuala Walsh second and Nuala Hopkins third. The junior golfer of the year is being led by Jack O’Donnell with Jack Healy in second place and Joe Hastings is third.
