Man pepper sprayed after being aggressive towards gardaí

A Lithuanian man was before Castlebar District Court on Wednesday for being threatening and abusive and for failing to comply with a garda.

Garda Peter Sarsfield was on mobile patrol on August 27 2012 at Dalton Street, Claremorris, at 3.20am, when he was informed that a fight was taking place up the street. A number of men were fighting near Supermac’s. One of the men was Lukasz Krupecki, 10 Meadow Court, Elm Park, Claremorris.

The men were asked to leave the area. The fight however continued up the street between three men. Krupecki moved back towards Supermac’s and was directed to leave the area. He was aggressive towards gardaí and was warned by Garda Sarsfield that he would be pepper sprayed if he did not desist from his behaviour. The defendant was pepper sprayed. The garda said the defendant continued to be aggressive at the Garda station.

Garda Sarsfield said in evidence in court that Krupecki had earlier in the incident pointed his finger in a gun like motion at another garda who was at the scene. The garda said that this was done as the defendant “wanted this garda to respect him” as the garda was newly stationed in the town.

The defendant has previous convictions including a suspended Circuit Court sentence. Judge Mary Devins remanded him to Castlebar Circuit Court on October 9.
