Upcoming events at the Museum of County Life

At the National Museum of Country Life, Turlough drop in on Thursday August 30 from 2pm to 3pm for Crafty Thursdays. This crafts workshop is for children seven years and up. No booking is required.

On Saturday September 1 from 3pm to 5pm a drop-in activity for adults to join a traditional music group.

Lazy Hazy Knitters will meet on Friday September 7 from 11am to 1pm. It is for adults and children aged seven up.

If you have an interest in finding out about your family history come along for free practical tips with the Mayo genealogy group. This will take place on Saturday September 8 from 11am to 1pm—for adults only. On the same day from 11am to 4pm Connacht Textile Crafters will meet.

Temporary exhibitions

Domestic Crafts: Traditional and Modern

This exhibition aims to showcase the wide range of domestic crafts, methods and materials used today. Many traditional crafts have developed creatively to incorporate modern tools, materials and techniques. This exhibition reflects this increasing diversity through a range of objects including garments, quilts, felted toys and sculptural pieces.

Return to the Land of Youth: The folk art paintings of Seán Ó Séadhacháin

This folk art exhibition is composed of the country life paintings of Seán Ó Séadhacháin (1901-1991 ). They give a special insight into many of the farm and country life practices that are on exhibition in the Museum of Country Life.

The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm and from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday. For bookings contact 094 903 1751.
