Fines for Ballina women who stole from Penney’s

Two women who appeared before Judge Mary Devins at Ballina District Court on charges of theft of children’s clothes from Penney’s in Ballina were each fined €150.

The court heard how Bernadette Lawrence, IDA Industrial Estate, Bunree Road, Ballina and Ellen Lawrence, also of the IDA Industrial Estate, Bunree Road, Ballina entered the store on November 13 last and left without paying for a number of children’s clothing items, estimated value €90.

Garda Adrian O’Shaughnessy told Judge Devins that the defendants had been identified on CCTV. He said the property was recovered. Defending solicitor, Mr Pierce Loftus, told Judge Devins that the defendants were cousins and both were married with five children. They had no previous convictions and at the time they were living in caravans at the industrial estate.

Judge Devins imposed fines of €150 on both defendants.
