More than 2,500 runners expected on Achill Island this weekend

Over 2,500 runners are expected to descend on Achill Island this weekend for the Achill Half Marathon taking place on Saturday, July 7.

The event route follows a stunning course around Achill, starting and finishing at Keel Beach. It is open to competitive runners, joggers, and walkers, the event also enjoys the support of local volunteers who help at the water stations and provide help around the course.

Achill Half Marathon was organised for the first time in 2006. The event has grown phenomenally over the last six years and last year 123 international runners from13 different countries participated, in addition to participants from every corner of Ireland.

A donation from the proceeds will be made to the ISPCC, the chosen charity for 2012.
