Drunk man lay in middle of road

A man who was so drunk that he lay in the middle of a road in Castlebar was convicted and fined at Castlebar District Court this week for being intoxicated in a public place.

At 2.05am on September 29 2011, Garda Colette Farragher observed Brian Gibbons, Rathbawn Road, Castlebar, lie on the ground in the middle of Tucker Street. The garda attempted to wake him. Gibbons had trouble standing without assistance and was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place.

The defendant was not in court nor represented

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €100.
