Money allocated to improve junction at King’s Hill

Ten thousand euro has been allocated to improve safety at the King’s Hill junction — a dangerous location where funding has been sought on many occasions by Westport area councillors Margaret Adams and Peter Flynn.

At the Westport Electoral Area meeting on Monday Cllr Flynn said that he was “absolutely delighted that money has finally been allocated to make it a safer spot”.

Director of services Joe Beirne informed councillors that more than €15 million in NRA grants has been allocated to the county; down from last year’s €18.9 million allocation.

Two major schemes have however been kept “alive” as there are grants for the Westport to Turlough scheme and for the N5/N26 scheme.

In the non-national road grants, €175,000 has been set aside for the Bunowen Bridge at Louisburgh and there is an allocation of €150,000 for the Delphi Bridge, Louisburgh.
