Flyers placed on car leads to litter conviction

The manager of a hotel was convicted at Castlebar District Court this week for littering after advertising flyers for the hotel were found placed on a windscreen of a car in Castlebar.

Traffic warden Lorcan Cribben told the court that on January 24 2011 he observed flyers on the windscreen of a vehicle in the Hopkin’s Road car park. The flyer belonged to the Ocean Sands Hotel, Sligo.

Castlebar Town Council brought the prosecution under the Pollution Act as it is illegal to place such advertising material on an MPV.

The manager of the hotel, Mark Devanay, Breaffy, Ballina, was convicted and fined €150 by Judge Denis McLoughlin. Devaney was also directed to pay €750 towards costs.
