Case being brought against Council in relation to drinking water standards

The Environmental Protection Agency is bringing a case against Mayo County Council in relation to drinking water standards.

At Castlebar District Court on Wednesday, it was heard that a case was being brought against the county council for not complying with regulations under European Communities (Drinking Water ) Regulations. These regulations establish strict quality standards for water used for human consumption, with the EPA providing a yearly report on the quality of drinking water in Ireland.

Judge Mary Devins gave the case a hearing date for February 1 2012.
