London’s West End comes to the West with The Buddy Holly Story at the Royal Castlebar

Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story is the multi-award-winning, world-wide smash hit musical celebration of the life and tragic death of Buddy Holly. Buddy has been seen by over 20 million people around the world. It’s had audiences on their feet in both London’s West End and New York’s Broadway and now Buddy, the world’s most successful rock ‘n’ roll musical, is coming to the Royal Castlebar Theatre and Event Centre. This toe-tapping, hand-clapping live music extravaganza starts on Tuesday November 18 and runs until Sunday November 23.

Charles Hardin Holley became Buddy Holly when his surname was misspelt in a contract and that spelling was then adopted for his professional career. The sensational singer, songwriter and musician shot to stardom in 1957, only to die aged 22 on February 3 1959. The man who changed the face of popular music tragically perished on “the day the music died” in a plane crash alongside 17-year-old Richie Valens and Mr J. P. Richardson, a.k.a. the Big Bopper.

Experience the ups and downs of Holly’s musical career as he strives to fulfil his potential genius. This heart-warming tale of a small town American boy is told with care, detail and a great deal of humour. The Buddy Holly Story finally explodes with a celebration of youth and a lust for life in a re-creation of his last concert at Clear Lake.

The show features such timeless hits as “Peggy Sue”, “That’ll Be The Day”, “Oh Boy” and “Everyday”, from Buddy Holly, alongside Ritchie Valens’ “La Bamba” and the Big Bopper’s “Chantilly Lace”. This immaculately staged production gives some of the best musical talent around the chance to perform the music of this era as it will always be remembered and always should be performed; with youth, joy and boundless enthusiasm.
