Community grants for north Mayo organisations

Mayo Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary has confirmed that two groups in north Mayo are to receive government funding under the Programme for Community and Voluntary Organisations.

The funding was sanctioned by his colleague John Curran TD, Minister of State with responsibility for Community Affairs and the National Drugs Strategy at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.

The groups to benefit are Knockmore Rathduff Economic and Social Development Company (€60,000 ) and Carrowmore-Lacken Development Association Ltd (€10,000 ).

Deputy Calleary warmly welcomed the funding, saying: “This programme of grants is a relatively new scheme designed to improve the quality of facilities and services offered by community and voluntary organisations by grant aiding essential works, fitting out and ensuring organisations in the sector have the required skills and knowledge to manage in an increasing complex environment.

“Funding for the programme has been significantly increased and it also includes significant changes and improvements which increase the level of grant available and ensure that they are more focused on areas most in need.

“This is further evidence of the Government’s commitment to supporting community-based organisations as they strive to provide better facilities and opportunities for the people they serve,” concluded Dep Calleary.
