Trocaire asks Mayo people to help alleviate east Africa drought

Trocaire has asked the people of Mayo to help deliver food and water to more than 10 million people suffering the effects of drought in east Africa. The organisation has launched an emergency appeal to tackle a drought crisis in Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia.

Prolonged drought has led to crop failure which has put 10 million people in urgent need of food. Animals are dying in large numbers and in certain areas one in every four children are dangerously malnourished.

Trocaire has launched an emergency response to the situation and is funding 10 separate drought response projects in the region. These projects are bringing food to communities suffering the worst affects of the drought. Members of the public can make a donation by visiting trocaire.org or phoning 1850 408408.
