Two dangerous Glenisland junctions to be removed next year

Two very dangerous junctions at Glenisland School, on the Belmullet Road out of Castlebar, are to be removed next year.

A proposal by Mayo County Council to remove the hazardous bends on the R312 Belmullet Road, attracted two submissions when it was out on public display. The submissions, which were described more as “observations” at Tuesday’s meeting of the Castlebar electoral area committee, came from the Inland Fisheries and the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government.

The council has received a grant of €100,000 towards the new 1.1 kilometres of road which will be built, and the next stage of the progress is to purchase the necessary lands.

Councillors agreed to put the project forward to the full council for adoption.
