A man who on the night of his birthday was in a brawl with another man was before Castlebar District Court on Wednesday.
Garda John Fleming outlined that on August 29 2010 at 2.15am, he observed two men in grips with one another outside the TF Hotel, Castlebar. David Tuohy, Kilsallagh, Westport was one of the men. Both men were observed to fall to the ground and the garda separated them. As Garda Fleming turned his back from Tuohy and spoke to the TF door-staff a fight broke out with the defendant. Tuohy was observed to throw punches at another male. The defendant, who was drunk and violent, was handcuffed.
Tuohy, who has no previous convictions, now resides in America where he is to commence college.
Judge Mary Devins directed that Tuohy contribute €200 to the Garda Benevolent Fund and applied the Probation Act.
