Twenty two rescues by Mayo lifeboats last year

The RNLI lifeboats in Mayo rescued 22 people off the coast of the county last year. The lifeboats, which are based in stations in Achill and Ballyglass, were called into action on 18 different occasions in 2010. The Ballyglass lifeboat was by far the busier of the two, with 12 launches of the boat. Ten of the launches were of the all-weather lifeboat, while the inshore lifeboat had to be launched twice. The Ballyglass station rescued 21 people over the 12 months.

The Achill lifeboat was launched on six occasions in 2010, with all of the launches being all-weather lifeboat launches and they rescued one person over the course of the year. Overall around the country, the RNLI rescued 1,094 in 2010 and had 1,002 lifeboat launches.
