Major funding boost for Jackie Clarke collection announced

Before the start of the December meeting of Ballina Town Council this week, Mayor Frances McAndrew welcomed the news that Fáilte Ireland has given the go ahead for €1.05 million in funding for the Jackie Clarke Library and collection in the town. The library which is homed in the old provincial bank in the town is tipped to become a major tourist attraction for the north Mayo town when it is opened at the end of next year.

Mayor McAndrew also announced to the meeting that Ballina had received four nominations for the 2011 Local Authority Members Association awards. The four projects which have been nominated for the awards were Flow, the new public artwork instillation on Pearse Street in the town, the new wheelchair accessible park and walk facility in Belleek Woods, the biomass energy project at Ballina swimming pool, and the Ice House Hotel.
