New Ford dealer to create more than 20 jobs in Castlebar

A new Ford dealership for Mayo is set to create more than 20 jobs in Castlebar following the announcement that long-standing Ford dealer J.J. Griffith Limited of Claremorris is to open a new operation in the county town from January 2011.

Located on James Street in Claremorris and with a staff of 30 experienced motor industry professionals, J.J. Griffith has been serving the motorists of Mayo since 1945.

“Ford has a long and proud history in Co. Mayo”, said Jim Hughes, Managing Director of J.J. Griffith Limited, “and we are delighted to be re-establishing the Ford presence in Castlebar, an important and thriving town in Mayo.

Eddie Murphy, Managing Director, Ford Ireland, told the Mayo Advertiser: “In these tough market conditions, this is a hugely positive development for the town of Castlebar and of course for Ford. The provision of a strong, accessible dealer network has long been part of the Ford promise to its customers, and this development enables us to live up to that promise in Castlebar and its environs.”

The new dealership will initially be managed by Padraic Fahy who has built up more than 40 years experience at the Claremorris dealership. It is expected the dealership will provide new positions for a minimum of 20 staff in its first year of operation. The location for the new dealership will be announced in the coming weeks.

It is also worth noting that the appointment of a new dealer in Castlebar also marks a historic date for the company in the town as it is exactly one hundred years ago that Joseph Burke and Sons, Castlebar was apppointed as the second Ford dealership in Ireland - making it the the first such dealership outside of Dublin at the time - way back in 1910.
