Judge adjourns sentencing to allow repayments

Sentencing of a Ballyhaunis man has been postponed until February 2011 to allow him start making repayments towards damage he caused to a window in the town.

At Ballyhaunis District Court this week Garda John Devane reported receiving a call on June 24 2010 about damage to a pub on Main Street, Ballyhaunis, at 8.10pm. At the scene he saw the front window had been smashed, and after reviewing CCTV, saw a man who he knew to be Thomas McDonnagh, 29 The Maples, Ballyhaunis, cause the damage. The court was told the repairs cost €1,187 to the owner of the pub.

Solicitor for McDonnagh, Evan O’Dwyer, said his client was able to pay €80 per month to the injured party but no more at the moment as he had no income except State benefits. Judge David Anderson adjourned the case until February 1 2011 noting that payments of up to €400 should be in place at that stage.
