Mayo businesses short-listed for outstanding performance

A number of Mayo businesses have been nominated for the Q Mark award, which recognises outstanding performance across all sectors.

Top of the list for The Q Mark Award for Hygiene and Food Safety in the category of Convenience Store is Casey’s Centra in Castlebar, Co Mayo.

Terry McShane, owner of Casey’s Centra, paid tribute to store manager Aiden Hennigan and his team. “Their constant dedication and professional approach to quality and hygiene was the driving force that singled out the Castlebar store for The Q Mark Award,” he said.

Moloney’s SuperValu in Ballina, Co Mayo, is also celebrating after receiving top nomination for The Q Mark Award for Hygiene and Food Safety in the Supermarkets category.

“The nomination for this national award is indicative of the hard work being done by our staff, and a great boost to our customers’ confidence in our goods and services,” said Edel Moloney.

Top of the list for The Q Mark Award for Quality Management Systems in the category of Food is O'Haras of Foxford, Co Mayo.

“We are delighted to be a 2010 nominee in The Q Mark Food category because we firmly believe quality matters,” said Kate O’Hara, QC project manager.

The Quality Management Systems Q Mark top nomination in the category of Health and Social Services was awarded to Aras Attracta in Co Mayo which provides residential, respite, and day services for adults with an intellectual disability and is managed by the HSE in partnership with statutory and voluntary organisations.

The Q Mark is awarded only to companies which achieve the highest standards of quality and excellence.

“To be nominated for the Q Mark Awards is an enormous achievement, particularly as this year has seen the highest number of entries ever with 230 contenders,” said Irene Collins, managing director, EIQA (Excellence Ireland Quality Association ). “Companies who hold The Q Mark demonstrate to customers that the highest standards of quality and excellence are at the heart of their business.”

A total of 25 Q awards will be presented to the winners at a star-studded ceremony on September 24 next in Dublin’s Burlington Hotel.
