Captain’s drive in signals start of new season proper

The winners of last weekend’s waltz competition was the team of Breege Moran, Oliver Moran, and John O’Connor on a score of 80, in second place was the team of Eamon Keane, Carmel Costello, and Michael Gannon with a score of 72. In third place was the trio of Padraig Joyce, John Parsons, and Austin Callaghan with 71 and rounding off the placing was the side of Michael Neary, Dermot MacMahon, and Martin Moylette, with a 69.

The captain’s drive in will take place at 12 noon on Sunday March 21, this will be followed by a three ball scramble. This weekend’s competition is a Stableford event.

Ballina

In last weekend’s Stableford competition Joe Murphy came out on top with a score of 29pts, just holding off PJ Corrigan in second place who scored 28pts. On Sunday in the spring league the round two winners were the side of Paddy Myers, Paul Cronin, Ronnie Cawley, and Mary Reynolds with a score of 46.1. The third round of the competition is down for this Sunday March 14, and the tee times are posted on the notice board in the club house. All club members are reminded their subs for 2010 are due before the end of the month.

 

Ballyhaunis

Last weekend’s Stableford competition saw Kung Fanning playing off 10, just holding off Kay Fanning playing off 19 to pick up the win with both women finishing on a score of 38. Just on their tail in third place was Margaret Dyer with a score of 37. The gents’ competition was also a close run thing with Tom Dillion just sneaking past Tom Fanning to pick up the prize, with Willie Coyne hot on their heels in third place.

Claremorris

The captain’s drive in will take place on March 17 at 5.30pm. Michael Conway and Peggy Tawse cordially invite all members to attend. An 18 holes singles Stableford competition sponsored by the Foodstore will precede the drive in. This is the first 18 holes competition of the year.

The dates have been revised for the final of the open winter league. This will be played in 18-hole four-ball format.

 

Mulranny

The captain’s drive in will take place on Sunday March 14 to signal the start of the spring/summer season. Also on Sunday a three ball scramble will take place with a shotgun start at 9.30am. Last weekend’s competition saw Eamon Scanlon win out with a score off 44. Sean Heverin came second with 34, the same score as the third placed Dick Quinn.

Westport

The captain’s drive in will take place in the club tomorrow, Saturday March 13, at 12 noon. The ceremony will be followed by a fun mixed nine hole scramble. Presentation of prizes will take place immediately after the competition, where some light refreshments will also be served.

A nine hole ladies’ weekly matchplay will be played this April. Members are requested to sign the entry form which is currently positioned in the ladies’ locker room. The entry fee is €5. The draw for the first round will take place on Monday March 29 and there will be a draw for every round, which in turn must be completed by the end of each week.

A well attended meeting of all junior golfers took place in the clubhouse on Saturday last. Preparations are well under way for the first round match of the Fred Daly which takes place against Swinford on March 28. The first of three Saturday morning sessions for new juvenile members began last Saturday. Parents interested in coming along on Saturday mornings will be made more than welcome by Jim Browne, Mary McNicholas, and Joe Carty.
