Hollywood returns to Cong

James Bond star Roger Moore is to shoot a romantic comedy in Mayo.

The film will be shot in Cong and will be based on the shooting of the Quiet Man, which was also based in the scenic south Mayo village, in the 1950s.

Aidan Quinn, Geraldine Chaplin, and Sarah Bolger will star in the film.

The former 007 star will also produce the movie to be called Connemara Days which will be directed by Kevin Connor and produced by Belfast company Causeway Pictures with support from Fáilte Ireland.

The film will chronicle the arrival of famed Hollywood director John Ford to Cong.

Stacy Keach, star of Escape from La, will play Ford, who arrived in Cong in 1952 accompanied by John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara.

The movie will focus on the impact that Ford and his crew had on the local scene.
