Drugs charge for Castlebar man

An 18-year-old married man who was found with €166 worth of cannabis in his possession was before Castlebar District Court this week.

Superintendent Willie Keaveney outlined that on April 15 2009, gardaí went to the then home of Jason McDonagh, 7 Thomas Street, Castlebar, where McDonagh was in an agitated state in his room.

McDonagh was observed to remove cannabis from his bedside locker where he placed it under the bed.

The defendant, who has no previous drug related convictions, told the court that he started using drugs when he was 17, but no longer uses them.

Judge Mary Devins adjourned the matter to April 21 for a probation report.
