Adventure duathlon for Castlebar

Adventure races are fast growing in Ireland. The west of Ireland has been leading the way with major events in the last few years using the fantastic rugged scenery of County Mayo. A new annual adventure race will be held on March 27 2010 which fits perfectly with any athletes who run, cycle, and train for adventure races around the country. The perfect event for the people looking for real adventure!

The Days Adventure Duathlon in association with the Days Hotel in Castlebar is organised by two of the most experienced event organisers and reputable coaches, Padraic Marrey and Sebastien Locteau. Their experience in sports will guarantee a successful event.

The Days Adventure Duathlon consists of a 3km run starting from the Days Hotel in Castlebar via Lough Lannagh village to St Patrick School on the Rathbawn road. Athletes will collect their bikes and will cycle the 7km over the hilly roads from the Rathbawn towards Glenisland, now the adventure really starts; they will then leave their bikes at the transition area and attempt to run up the leg sapping 4km ascent to the Glenisland Mast on a scenic but technical trail. The athletes will descend back down to get their bikes and will cycle the 15k back to Castlebar via Glenisland and the Newport/ Castlebar Road to the St Patrick School, where they will drop their bikes and finish with a 3k dash via the Lough Lannagh trail walk to the finish line at Days Hotel.

Registration on www.runireland.com or contact Seb or Padraic on 085 7350850 and 087 7992857. This will be a real scenic adventure event with category winner prizes and overall for first, second, and third in both male and female categories.
