Paws for Thought

Mayo SPCA is appealing for special homes for two rescued dogs, Tripod and Smartie, and to anyone who can offer a home to an indoor or outdoor cat.

Tripod is lovely natured, approximately three-year-old male collie. He was brought into care from Achill Island suffering severe injuries to his front left leg, which unfortunately had to be amputated if his life was to be saved. He appeared to have been roaming for some time with his injuries as part of his paw was missing and the bone in his leg was infected. Several people had seen his plight and many unsuccessful attempts had been made to catch him. He was very frightened and in a lot of pain. Tripod has proved himself to be worthy of saving, is loving and affectionate, and is getting around great on his three legs. He doesn't have a problem getting in and out of cars or going for a walk on a lead. He is shy on first approach by a stranger but he soon cuddles into a person. Currently in one-to-one foster care to help him recuperate and restore his confidence, he will make such a wonderful pet due to his great temperament and gentleness. He deserves now to live the rest of his days without pain and has suffered enough.

Smartie is a blue whippet/lurcher type dog, not yet neutered as he was brought into care in a really shocking state, suffering severe malnutrition and also badly infected skin, mostly caused by being kept in filthy conditions. In a very short space of time he has gained a considerable amount of weight and is such a character, a really happy, playful dog with the gentlest of natures, so good with other dogs and all people/children. Mayo SPCA is looking for a home where this dog can really be appreciated, preferably without cats as his instinct would be to chase, he bonds so easily with anyone and is eager to please. He has been worm/flea treated, had his first vaccination, his skin has responded well to medication, all he needs now is a home with small regular meals and someone who has the time to give him the exercise/play time he so enjoys.

Tabby is a very affectionate, gentle cat who was abandoned with her young kittens. Her kittens have now been rehomed, Tabby has been spayed, is litter trained, and will make a beautiful pet.
