Cheap car costs owner hundreds in fines

A 20-year-old Ballina man who purchased a car for €60 was fined at Ballina District Court this week for road traffic offences.

On April 25 at 11.13am, Garda Rebecca Fearon stopped Thomas Conroy, 64 St Patrick’s Estate, Ballina driving a Nissan Micra on Mercy Road, Ballina as the defendant was not wearing a seat belt. Conroy did not have insurance on the vehicle nor NCT.

Conroy, who has no previous convictions, has since scrapped the car and was convicted and fined €675 by Judge Mary Devins.
