Music workshop for young people

Drums/percussion, vocals, and guitar workshops for aspiring young musicians (10-18 years ) take place during the Guinness Castlebar Blues Festival in association with JABACC (Jazz and Blues Appreciation Club, Castlebar ) on Saturday May 30.

Drum/percussion workshop with one of Ireland’s top drummers, Noel Bridgeman, who has performed played worldwide with many artists over the years, including Van Morrisson, Mary Black and The Waterboys. Open to anyone aged 10-18 years who is learning or playing drums/percussion. The workshop takes place at the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar at 3pm on Saturday May 30. The duration of the course is two hours and costs, €10 booking is essential.

Vocal workshop with singer/songwriter Cara Robinson, inspired by soul, gospel and blues. The workshop will comprise learning harmonies, reviewing your pitch and open throat techniques, plus a chance to all sing together. Cara will also talk about her views on what singing is all about, where the voice comes from and plenty of advice on finding your range. The workshop takes place at Lough Lannagh village, Castlebar, at 2pm on Saturday May 30. The duration is 90 minutes, and is suitable for ages from 10 to 18 years. The cost is €10, booking is essential.

Guitar demonstration with supreme UK guitarist Mike Burke (with Fran McGillivray ) of acoustic guitar-playing techniques (finger style, flat picking, ragtime, slide, different types of tuning and pedal effects ). Mike will play a selection of songs sung by Fran McGillivray, and after each song he will demonstrate how he achieved a particular technique or sound/phrasing. Suitable for anyone learning or playing the guitar from 10 to 18 years. The workshop takes place at Lough Lannagh village, Castlebar, at 4.15pm on Saturday May 30.
