Influential Swedish golf journalists check Mayo facilities

A large group of influential golf writers from Sweden arrived in Mayo last week. They are all members of the important Swedish Golf Writers’ Association, here to experience at first-hand some of the fantastic golf courses on offer in counties Mayo and Sligo.

Their first stop in Mayo was Carne Golf Links at Belmullet. They also enjoyed a tour of the Céide Fields and overnighted at Downhill House Hotel in Ballina.

Steven Roberts, Tourism Ireland’s manager in the Nordic region, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase Mayo to the Swedish market. Media visits such as these are very important, in terms of helping to spread the good news about Mayo and the high quality of the golf product available throughout Ireland. The articles these influential journalists will write will be read by many thousands of Swedish golfers and potential holidaymakers.

“Sweden is a very important market for golf tourism and we in Tourism Ireland are pulling out all the stops to win business and to keep Ireland and Mayo ‘top of mind’ with the Swedish consumer this year. It is absolutely essential that we convey the message that there has never been a better time for Swedish people to visit the island of Ireland.”

The golf writers travelled to Ireland with the assistance of Tourism Ireland in the Nordic Region and Fáilte Ireland.
