Mayo projects going for gold at All Ireland community and council awards

Mayo has five projects shortlisted for the All Ireland Community and Council Awards. For thirteen years these awards have grown in popularity nationwide, celebrating community and councils working together.

It has been an extraordinary year for entries with over 150 nominations received. Following an in-depth judging process over 100 projects nationwide from 22 counties were short listed across 20 categories.

Among the awards to be presented on the night is the coveted council of the year and the ever popular best community-based initiative and best arts/culture initiative, along with new categories this year, including best social housing initiative and best environmental/ecological project/initiative.

This year has been extremely successful for Mayo with five projects shortlisted for the 2019 awards: (1 ) Mayo Cancer Support, Rock Rose House - Best Community Based Initiative, (2 ) Drive Safer for Longer Programme - Best Community Based Initiative, (3 )Running Club at Westport Leisure Park, (4 ) Soundworlds Early Years Music Programme and (5 ) The Tubber Hill Housing Scheme and Master Plan. A piece of Urbanism – An alternative to 9 bungalows.

Now in their 13th year, the 2019 All Ireland Community and Council Awards celebrate community and councils working together. They provide a great opportunity to highlight the work done within communities, to reward unsung heroes and recognise the phenomenal contribution they make to lives as well as to acknowledge achievements from local community and County Councils, partnerships and projects that enhance everyday lives.

This year’s All Ireland Community and Council Award winners will be announced at the gala Awards ceremony, hosted by RTÉ's Marty Morrissey at Croke Park Stadium, on Saturday, February 9.
