St Patrick's Day Parade to celebrate 100 years of Castlebar history

A call-out has been issued to remind all organisations across the town and county to get involved in Castlebar's Annual St Patricks Day parade, taking place on Sunday March 17.

According to the organising committee, the event will start promptly at 2pm at its usual starting point at MacHale Road in the town. Participants, floats and bands are asked to assemble at the Sportlann end of McHale Road at 1.15pm.

The parade will follow its traditional route passing along Station Road, Spencer Street, The Mall, Ellison Street, Market Square, Newtown, Chapel Street, Newline, New Antrim, Street, Linenhall Street, and Main Street where the reviewing stand will be situated. Strict parking restrictions will be in place.

It is always a fantastic family orientated community event, filled with fun and colour. The theme for this year's parade is '100 years of Castlebar history', marking the development of Castlebar in to the modern town it is today,

The theme was prompted by the 100th Anniversary of Dail Eireann, celebrated in January 2019. The parade will also recognise the hugely successful Mayo Day, which this year will return for it's fifth year on Saturday, May 4.

The grand Marshal for this year's parade will be well known local man Tomas Langan. Tomas is a multi-talented musician and community activist whose story is all the more inspiring as he has been visually challenged from birth. He has never let his disability get in the way of living a full and rewarding life as a musician and singer. Tomas has travelled all over the world by invitation to perform at charity events and at many family celebrations.
