Network Ireland appoints Mayo national president

Úna Murphy from Westport has been appointed national president of Network Ireland for 2009. This is the first time a member of Network Mayo has achieved this honour. Úna Murphy is a past president of Network Mayo and has been an active member of the organisation since its inception in late 2005.

Murphy is an experienced banker currently working as Commercial Lending Manager with AIB based in Mayo. She previously held a variety of positions with AIB in the UK and Ireland. She was captain of the AIB Ladies’ Golf Society in London and is a former president of Junior Chamber.

Professionalism in business is the theme Murphy has chosen for her year in office; an appropriate focus in challenging economic times. “Many businesses will face serious challenges this year some more radical than others,” Murphy said in her inaugural address to the national executive. “Membership of Network provides the support and encouragement that we will all need to successfully survive these turbulent times.”

Network is the organisation for women in business, the professions, and the arts. Network Ireland was set up 26 years ago and is now well established with branches all over the country. Membership is open to both employees and women who run their own business. Local meetings are held monthly with relevant guest speakers. Network provides a supportive and helpful environment, particularly for anyone setting up or developing their business. Training and mentoring are all part of the successful mix.

Network Mayo meets monthly in Castlebar. Anyone interested in joining or just dipping a toe in the water by attending a meeting should contact Sinead Holmes, president, Network Mayo on 087 131 7427.

The Network Ireland national conference will be held in Mayo on Friday October 9 2009 and although plans are well under way, Úna Murphy is coy about releasing any details just yet. “Let’s just say it’s going to be a conference worth attending,” she smiled. “The business men and women of Mayo will have something to look forward to.”
