€1.2 million in funding to be provided for Glencastle National School

The Government has agreed to provide €1.2 million to build a 438 square metre special needs unit at Scoil Mhuire, Glencastle, Bunnahowen.

The north Mayo school is a co-educational Gaeltacht primary school.

Minister Michael Ring earlier this week confirmed that he had been informed by his colleague, the Minister for Education, Richard Bruton, that his department has written to Scoil Mhuire to inform them that funding has been approved to build an extension for an SNA unit at the school.

Having made representations to the Minister, along with his Fine Gael colleague Councillor Gerry Coyle, Minister Ring said he was delighted to see this important investment is now being made.

In a statement to the Mayo Advertiser, Minister Ring said: “It is great news for the local community. I want to commend the principal, teachers, and all staff in Scoil Mhuire on the wonderful work which they carry out there. This is a major commitment by Government to a rural school.”
