From here to maternity - midwife positions approved for Kilkenny

KILKENNY ADVERTISER, February 10, 2012

There has been a lot of talk about midwives and St Luke’s Hospital and maternity wards in recent weeks and the news that 10 new midwifery positions have been announced for the hospital is indeed very welcome.

With retirements imminent at the end of the month and a maternity ward already stretched to its limit, it must be a huge relief for women (including me) who are due to give birth after March 1.

We in Kilkenny are lucky to have such a vibrant artistic community in our midst, so much so that we almost take for granted that there is probably live music or theatre options available seven nights a week in the city and across the county.

We are never stuck for something to do in the evenings as we are so well catered for with bands, theatre, children’s performances and art exhibitions etc. The Set Theatre has brought a new dimension to the ability to host live music in a stunning atmosphere and we also have a host of live music venues and indigenous venues such as Castillia Hall in Callan and Ballykeefe Quarry, which offer very special alternative venues to acts that visit Kilkenny.
