Kilkenny Triathlon Club launches inaugural race
Kilkenny Triathlon Club announced the launch of its inaugural club race last week – ‘the KTC Duathlon 2012’ – which will take place in the scenic surrounds of Mount Juliet, Kilkenny on Saturday, March 10.
Over 150 athletes are expected to race on the day, ranging from experienced racers to those completely new to the sport. It is also hoped that some of Ireland’s top triathletes will make the trip to take part in the event.
The race itself will consist of a 3km run within the grounds of Mount Juliet, a 19km cycle through the surrounding countryside, and then back into Mount Juliet for the final 3km run. For those new to the multi-disciplinary world of triathlon, a duathlon offers a fantastic way to dip your toe. So whether you are an experienced triathlete looking for a personal best or taking on your first challenge, this event will prove the perfect setting for it.
Duathlon race director Dara Fahy said he was looking forward to a big occasion.
“Duathlons and triathlons are experiencing huge growth in Ireland, seen no more clearly than with the success of the Triathlon in Kilkenny City last summer, and with such a stunning backdrop on offer at Mount Juliet we aim to put Kilkenny right on the map for duathlons as well” he said.
Online entry to the event opens on Wednesday, February 1. To find out more about the event or to enter, visit the club website www.kilkennytriathlonclub.com or email duathlon@kilkennytriathlonclub.com. The club would like to wish everyone who takes part a great day in Mount Juliet and is looking forward to putting on a top class event to kick off the 2012 racing season.
