Two boys from Kilkenny began the New Year in style, as they swept to victory in the Leinster Juvenile close boys’ doubles badminton tournament.

Liam Fennelly and Gavin Parr had battled their way into the finals, securing a fixture against the number one seeds Des Duggan and Ben O’Shea.

The match was a three-set thriller with both sides fighting for every point, and it was played with great sportsmanship. The Kilkenny boys took the opener 21-17, while Duggan and O’Shea matched it by taking the middle set 14-21.

As the match went into the third set, the rallies seemed to go on for ever, with neither side giving way. However Fennelly and Parr began to pull away at the end, and they took the title 21-17.
